Tending to our Broken Hearts

  • Radically Fit Oakland 1035 22nd Avenue Oakland, CA, 94606 United States (map)

Tending to our broken hearts is an event including movement, meditation, grief and community medicine hosted by Sola Habibi + Radically Fit. A grief circle open to all, especially centering QTBIPOC and those of the global majority.

In this moment of mass extinction, femicide, ethnic cleansing, racism, exploitation, genocide, and violence, we are coming together to mourn, grieve, and build resilience as a community. We will be witnessing our collective grief through peer support, moving our bodies using sacred ancient technologies, and connecting with our breath.

Donation based. NOTAFLOF. Please email: hello@solahabibi.com if you would like to reserve a NOTAFLOF spot. All proceeds will go to Said Alyacoubi's GoFundMe to help his family evacuate Gaza.

"You know how they say you have to feel it, to heal it. Everybody has these little slogans or whatever. You know, I don't believe that you need to heal grief. Grief itself is the healing." - From 'Becoming the People Podcast' With Prentis Hemphil: 'Grief is the Medicine with Malkia Devich Cyril.

This space was created first and foremost for the Black and POC community. If you are a white person (including any POC who are white passing/assumed*) and choose to engage in this space we ask that you are continuing to analyze and be mindful of the space you take up physically, mentally and the effect your proximity to Black and POC folks has in our space. We ask that you prioritize Black and POC folks in this space. Examples of that could be, allowing Black/POC folks to access equipment first in group classes, waiting for Black/POC folks to ask questions and engage with the instructor first, following social cues from Black/POC folks before engaging with them. An example of a microaggression would be to refuse to learn how to pronounce someone’s name, even after being corrected, or asking where someone is “really from.”

ACCESSIBLITY:

2 ground level ADA accessible bathrooms. COVID safety: masks on indoors (we have N95 & surgical masks) & have fans to circulate air.
